Young Adult Ministry (YAMs)
Supporting our high school graduates in next steps of their lives!
First Baptist Church, Morganton supports our high school graduates in the “next steps” of their personal and faith journeys whether it is college, military, or the work force.
Our young adults are affectionately referred to as the YAMs!
The Young Adult Ministry Coordinator and the Minister for Youth, Education, and Missions coordinates this ministry and provides support to the Sunday School classes.
First Baptist provides support through prayer and other ways as these young adults enter this new phase of their lives. The church uses cards, texts, and emails to communicate with them periodically throughout the year. Summer activities for YAM’s are offered to promote fellowship. Church members are encouraged to be in prayer for them as they face new challenges and opportunities.
Our Sunday School classes offer an “Adopt a Young Adult” program. Interested young adults are “adopted” by a class. They communicate with these young people on a regular basis through cards, texts, emails, and special goodies! Young Adults interested in being “adopted” are asked to complete a questionnaire that lets the class know how to personalize their support.
Young Adult participation involves:
- providing contact information and updating changes as they occur
- completing our YAMs survey at the beginning of the school year so your Sunday School class can personalize their support for you
- responding to periodic requests for information
- letting the Sunday School class know you appreciate their support through occasional contacts (calls, cards, texts, emails)
- checking your mail box frequently
- visiting the Sunday School class when you are in town
- sharing personal concerns and prayer requests
- participating in the YAMs led worship service and other activities created for you when you are home

We want to provide support through prayer and other ways as you enter this new phase of your life. You will hear from your church family periodically. We will be in prayer for you as you face new challenges and opportunities. We welcome your concerns and prayer requests.
Our Sunday School classes want you to participate in our “Adopt a Young Adult Program.” One of our adult classes will “adopt” you! They will communicate with you on a regular basis through cards, texts, emails, and special goodies! If you want to participate in this special aspect of our Young Adult Ministry, you must complete and return the enclosed questionnaire. If we do not receive a completed questionnaire from you, we will acknowledge that you do not want to participate in the special “adoption” program, but wish to be a part of the larger Young Adult Ministry.
If you choose to participate in the Adopt a Young Adult Program, you are asked to:
- provide contact information and update changes as they occur
-complete our YAMs survey at the beginning of every school year so your Sunday School class can personalize their support for you

-let the Sunday School class know you appreciate their support through occasional contacts (calls, cards, texts, emails)
-check your mailbox frequently (snail mail and email)
-visit the Sunday School class when you are in town
